An inside look at new PIXELS themes, free from SwiftKey

20th July 2015

Hi, Android users!

Did you know that there are five brand new free themes, inspired by PIXELS, the summer’s most original action comedy, waiting for you in the SwiftKey Store? You can turn your phone into the domain of five classic old school arcade game characters: Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, Centipede, Q*bert, and Space Invader.

So how did these themes come to be? Here’s a quick behind-the-scenes look at the design inspiration for these themes:

All of these themes were designed based on PIXELS movie posters, with the exception of Q*bert. Since there was no poster for Q*bert (sad face), I drew on assets from the game, and stuck with a retro style.

We also decided to go with a Minimal Keyboard design structure (which you can see here), so you can really enjoy the artwork while your keyboard maintains all its functionality.

When you press a key, you’ll notice that the key popups are the characters from the movie, and this is consistent on the punctuation slider as well.

Flow trails stay consistent with the theme’s dominant color – see how far you can Flow when you’re using Pac-Man!
