SwiftKey is a finalist for ‘Innovator of the Year’

18th September 2013

We’re pleased to announced that SwiftKey has been shortlisted for ‘Innovator of the Year’ at the Growing Business Awards by Real Business. These awards, now in their 15th year, are heralded as the most established and widely supported national recognition of successful UK businesses. The Growing Business Awards have served as the launchpad for many of Britain’s most distinguished entrepreneurs and SMEs; this year’s record-breaking quantity of entries have been reported as the strongest all-round set of nominations to date.

As a candidate for ‘Innovator of the Year’, SwiftKey was selected based on our interesting and fresh approach to innovation, bringing great ideas to life. This ties in with SwiftKey’s transition from an idea to a fully-fledged and innovative answer to the challenges of touchscreen typing; we’ve harnessed unique Natural Language Processing and Machine Learning techniques to create a world-leading prediction engine that understands the way that words work together. The Growing Business awards described the SwiftKey app as “like a mini robot in your hands”, reflecting the intelligence and intuitiveness of our technology. Innovation is something we are passionate about in all areas of our business, and this focus has driven our success since the company was founded five years ago.

Last year, Innovator of the Year went to First Mile, a company which has revolutionized the waste and recycling industry. For this year’s contest, SwiftKey is up against a diverse range of  innovators in their field including Direct Healthcare Services, Just Eat , Mesaplexx, Plan Bee, and Versarien.

Our CTO and co-founder, Dr Ben Medlock, will represent SwiftKey at a judging day later this week. The award ceremony will take place in London on October 23rd where the winners will be announced. Wish us luck!
