Meet the SwiftKey VIP – Mike Brown

22nd December 2014

Hi everyone,

It’s been a while, but we wanted to shine the spotlight on another one of the stellar members of our VIP Community and recognize their fantastic contributions that really make our SwiftKey VIP site what it is: a supportive and collaborative place for our users to chat about all things SwiftKey. You can see some of our amazing VIPs cameo in our holiday video:

For new readers and users, the VIP Community is an open forum for users to give feedback, share ideas and get their hands on betas. For anyone interested in joining, we encourage you to check it out!

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Mike Brown (aka Subliminal5oh2). Mike is relatively new to the VIP Community, but in his short time he has gone above and beyond when it comes to contributing to the needs of the community – even helping out the SwiftKey Staff at times.

Read on to learn more about Mike!

1) What’s your name? (real and VIP handle)

Mike Brown

VIP handle Subliminal5oh2

You can also find me on Twitter: @subliminal5oh2

2) Where are you from?

I was born and raised in Louisville, KY. I love this city; it’s a perfect mix of rural neighborliness and big city living.

3) What’s your day job?

I currently work at Sealed Air. I take recyclable foam and break it down, removing gases and anything that’s not plastic, and turn it back to raw materials for use to make more packing materials.

4) How did you first hear of SwiftKey?

I first heard if SwiftKey when it went on sale and was a featured Google Play Store item around 4 years ago. I tried it, and haven’t looked back since. It is the first application I install on any new device.

5) What do you think makes SwiftKey different?

SwiftKey is invaluable to me because of its differences. The first is the fact that the prediction technology is completely unmatched. The themes are gorgeous and well designed. The features are seemingly endless, and even after 4 years of use, I still learn new things about it’s functionality every day.

6) How many keystrokes have you saved using SwiftKey?

On this device, I’m a little under 500k saved and I’m 37% more efficient. Over my entire time using SwiftKey I’d guess I’m in the millions.

7) What’s it like to be part of the SwiftKey VIP Community?

Being part of this community has been rewarding in many ways. I’ve gotten to help shape the app that I love to use over any other application, as well as meet some cool fellows along the way. There are members who are very knowledgeable, and even someone like myself who has been using this app for a long time finds them to be incredibly helpful. Even in my short time here, it has been incredibly eye opening and fun.

8) What are your three favorite apps (apart from SwiftKey)?

My favorite apps are Spotify, Xbox 360 Smartglass, and Vaper’s Toolbox. A notable mention here is LocalCast. All great applications with wonderful designs.

9) What are your 3 favorite websites or blogs?

My three favorite websites are Reddit, XDA, and Android Central.

10) Tell us something unusual about yourself!

Aside from tech hobbies, I play tenor saxophone. Once or twice a week, my jazz buddies and I get together and just jam. Good times, and some of the best stress relief ever!

Thanks for sharing with us, Mike! We truly appreciate your input in the forums.

Cheers,
Ryan and the SwiftKey Team
