Say hello to SwiftKey 4

19th February 2013

It’s the moment everyone’s been waiting for! After months of hard work and collaboration between our developers and community, we’re proud to officially unveil the world’s smartest touchscreen keyboard – SwiftKey 4 – featuring SwiftKey Flow.

When we first unveiled SwiftKey Flow in October, we were stunned by the reaction – it showed us there was a gap in the market for a gesture typing keyboard that really understands what you want to say. With the latest and greatest SwiftKey you can switch seamlessly between tapping, flowing and choosing words.

What’s more, Flow Through Space is a brand new feature that lets you glide down to the space bar between words, writing entire phrases as you go.

To celebrate the launch of SwiftKey 4, we are giving away a Google Nexus 7 tablet and an exclusive SwiftKey t-shirt. To be in with a chance to win, make sure you’re following @SwiftKey and just tweet “I’m tweeting with SwiftKey 4 to win a Nexus 7! Try Android’s smartest keyboard now – #swiftkey”. We’ll pick the lucky winner next Wednesday (27th February) so be sure to check your Direct Messages then! Read our full terms and conditions here.

Also to celebrate, SwiftKey 4 and SwiftKey Tablet 4 are both currently half price, so get them now. For our loyal users who previously bought SwiftKey, the new version will be rolled out as a free update.

SwiftKey 4 also boasts many improvements to the powerful prediction engine that powers all of the keyboard’s language insights. We’ve scrapped “rapid” and “precise” mode in favor of an intelligent system that learns the sort of corrections and predictions you want from the keyboard over time.

The learning capacity for SwiftKey’s personalized insights has been increased. We’ve made tweaks to Smart Space and the way SwiftKey heatmaps how you interact with the touchscreen to make both work more powerfully.

We’re also launching new language support, bringing our total up to 60 languages. No other keyboard supports this many languages at a contextual level, and we’re very proud of this milestone. The new languages are Albanian, Bosnian, Javanese, Sundanese, Thai, and Vietnamese.

There are a lot of thanks we need to give to the incredible amount of hard work that’s gone into building this version of SwiftKey. Our developers each deserve a pat on the back for the outstanding job they’ve done, but also fundamental to making SwiftKey what it is today is our army of SwiftKey VIPs — 100,000-strong — for their efforts in helping refine and shape this version. Thanks to each and every one of you. And if you’ve yet to join us, why not sign up to our VIP Community and help us build the next big thing!

    Excellent. Well done.

  2. Michael Schaap says:

According to Google Play, Swiftkey 4 (neither regular nor tablet version) is compatible with my Nexus 7. Ironic, given that you give away a Nexus 7…

  3. Patjess Place says:

SwiftKey Tablet 4 is not working for my tablet galaxy note 10.1, why?

  4. Terry says:

Hi the new SwiftKey flow will not work on Android 4.2.2 Please arrange an update. I too would like to flow….

  5. Ken Wong says:

The new version on Google Play is marked as being not compatible with my Nexus 7, running Android 4.2.2.

I have it installed on my Galaxy S3 though, and it’s great, despite having to give up the ‘swipe left to delete word’ gesture.

  6. John Hilker says:

I can’t even find the app in Google Play on my Nexus 7 running 4.2.2.

  7. George says:

Why is not running on my nexus 7 4.2.2? The tablet version ofc! I have 2 users with the full app and i can’t update nor re-install it!
the only way to install it was to download it to my GalaxySII (ODD!!!) and back it up with titanium backup and then move the files to my nexus 7 and restore the app!

  8. Jim Jeffries says:

I can confirm that the UK play store says Swiftkey not compatable with Nexus 7, or even Acer Iconia A500. Same for both Phone and Tablet versions.

  9. Ruth says:

Hi all, Ruth from SwiftKey here – we’re aware of reports that some folks are having issues with tablets such as Nexus 7s and 10s. The team is looking into this right now and we hope it will be resolved shortly. Thanks.

    • Dragon says:

I was able to get it installed on my nexus 7 by pushing it from the online google play store instead of through my tablet google play app, at least its a workaround until you can get this corrected.

And…it fixed the suggestions being small on the tablet edition! Awesome

  10. Jim Jeffries says:

I can also confirm this is not just an issue with the new version of Swiftkey, previous versions also said incompatable.

  11. kahuna says:

The new version on Google Play is marked as being not compatible with my Samsung Galaxy Camera (EK-GC100). Swiftkey Flow Beta works perfectly on this device…

  12. Zen says:

still no support for chinese language ? it’ll be perfect by then

  13. Salty85 says:

I want to buy this immediately. but I can’t due to the nexus 7 incompatability. Please either confirm the sale will last after this is corrected or that we can get this for new buyers. Just about done with my trial.

    • Ruth says:

Hi, an update for all those who’ve been experiencing tablet compatibility issues. Nexus 7 and other wifi-only tablets should now be able to update to SwiftKey Tablet 4 via Google Play, pending the app store cache updating. Thanks for your patience. Ruth @ SwiftKey

    Doesn’t working in my LG-P990, CM-10.1, Android JB 4.2.2
I can’t configuring it (it breaks).
    How could I get help?

  17. DtheArtist says:

I LOVE IT! It’s amazing. I’m glad I didn’t have to pay extra for it, & it wasn’t another app besides the original Swiftkey. I saw the news on Twitter, & I just went to Google Play & updated mine. One thing I would like tho (& I’m gonna go to the VIP community for this) is themes like the Berry one. I would like some that look like that in different colors, like the regular blue color. It seems like that theme works better for me as far as the fluidity of the Keyboard. So, ,I hope you implement more themes like that for those who aren’t red lovers.

I got Swiftkey on Amazon App Store, so I can not update on Google Play. When will the latest version be on Amazon App Store? When I view it in the Google Play store, it only gives me “Uninstall” and “Open” but I do not have Version 4. This is annoying.

  19. Bo Shi says:

For Beta users, how do we get the free update? The Play store shows it at $1.99. Will the update be rolled out to us directly?

  20. Sonicaholic says:

I’ve been using SwiftKey for as long as i can remember on both my og xoom & my htc desire now gnex and sware by it, after all this time I’d never load an android device without it. It’s simply the only on screen keyboard I’m happy using on a daily basis and just love the new build, I’m not a huge fan of swipe keyboards I much prefer the “thumb dance” but its great to have the option. Thanks so much devs

  21. travitron says:

I’ve been using SwiftKey for a while. I’m conflicted regarding SwiftKey Flow, however — I LOVE the “Swipe back to delete a word” feature of SwiftKey, but this is disabled (understandably) when Flow is enabled. For me, it’s a dealbreaker so I don’t think I’ll be using flow. May I suggest an alternative gesture to delete a word if Flow is enabled? Like swipe up? Anything really that doesn’t conflict with Flow would work so that both Flow and “swipe back to delete a word” can live in harmony 🙂

  22. Paolo Bueno says:

I’m getting “Package file invalid” when downloading from Google Play in my Galaxy S3. I’ve tried uninstalling SwiftKey 3 and clearing all data from the Google Play app, but the same error persists.

  23. Charlie Edmunds says:

SwiftKey 4 is a free update for users who have previously purchased SwiftKey 3 — if you have not yet purchased SwiftKey then get it now while it’s on sale! 🙂 If you log into the store where you bought SwiftKey you should see the new version available to download.

If you update from SwiftKey 3 to SwiftKey 4, your learned language data from SwiftKey 3 will be preserved. If you have both SwiftKey 3 and SwiftKey Flow Beta on your phone and you’d like to keep your language data from SwiftKey Flow Beta (instead of SwiftKey 3) then you can do this by uninstalling SwiftKey 3 before you install SwiftKey 4.

Google Play shows that my galaxy s2 (Android 4.1.2) is incompatible.

  27. allthings says:

I love Flow. Changes the way I communicate in a way I never anticipated. I’d tried swipe keyboard before but never felt comfortable using them. Thank you for an excellent product.

  30. VB says:

  31. Scott Meyers says:

Was very excited to get flow, but the update has whacked most everything on my phone (evo4g), especially typing (odd, random delays and freezing). Please advise on how to remove update or do I have to uninstall SwiftKey altogether? Was excellent before, but intolerable now.

  32. Still has a problem with “too”. My only minor gripe so far.

  33. ismail cil says:

After the last update, we had turkey is impossible for users to use SwiftKey. Because the keyboard keys smaller. and are having difficulty using. Please, Turkish language is selected, the selection of only the qwerty keyboard as a solution to this. Thank you.

Why can’t they add “custom auto text” like Smart Keyboard and Ultra Keyboard. I love Swift Key if it just had custom word replacement for things like w = with and idk = I don’t know. Please add this, been waiting, I’ve paid for app, but using Smart keyboard purely because of custom auto text.
