What is the SwiftKey SDK?

17th June 2015

Hi everyone,

For those of you who don’t already know who SwiftKey is, we wanted to do a quick primer on how our technology works and how we work with companies like Samsung. Read on:

What is SwiftKey?

SwiftKey Keyboard is a free keyboard app for iPhone and Android that uses artificial intelligence to learn and predict your favorite words, phrases and emoji. Other SwiftKey features include SwiftKey Flow, which allows you to enter words by swiping your finger across the screen; SwiftKey Cloud, which accelerates SwiftKey’s learning of your preferred words and safely stores these preferences across multiple devices, among other features. SwiftKey was founded in London in 2008, and our technology is found on more than 250M devices worldwide. You can find the app here on Google Play and the Apple App Store:

What is the SwiftKey SDK?

SwiftKey works with a number of companies like Samsung where we provide them with our core software in an SDK (Software Development Kit). This is what powers word predictions and other typing features in their stock, or default keyboard app. Another way of describing this is that Samsung ‘white-labels’ SwiftKey technology for use within their devices’ keyboards. If your Samsung device’s keyboard is using SwiftKey technology, you won’t see anything referencing SwiftKey – it looks and acts like it’s part of the phone itself. This is distinct from being a pre-installed app.

If you have any questions, you can reach us on Facebook, Twitter, or through our Support site! Happy typing 🙂
